The Children's Translational Research Symposium was founded by Dr. Joel Lavine. The inaugural symposium took place in 2009. With researchers from UCSD, Salk Institute, Scripps Research Institute, and Burnham Institute, it was a huge success.


The symposium concentrated on pediatric issues such as obesity, language development, and microbial disease. This enabled researchers at all levels to collaborate, including research teams and primary care providers.


The symposium is now held every year, with the most recent one taking place in April 2022.
